Description
As promised, I worked out an anime look for the boys that I'm quite happy with. I was going for a look that was almost straight out of a manga page with a little more realism rather than trying to make them look like a 2D image in a 3D environment.
What I have learned is that you can make a few adjustments and get that look. The first mistake I learned from was starting with M6. Distorting a man to make him look like a boy just doesn't work. This time I started out with Brodie 6 and combined a little bit of the Hiro 5 body style to get the basic look.
The head is a combination of Hiro 5 and Aiko 6 with a few more head morphs until I got a base to work with. I'm still using the Gaussian Skin Textures for Keiko 6. It really ties them all together when the textures are uniform. That's what I didn't like about using standard Genesis 2 Skins --too much realism.
I used to use the AoA Subsurface toon shaders but they were a bit wonky when it came render time because they're a shader and not a map. I ended up having to re-render so many times because this or that didn't turn out like I thought it would. From now on, it's maps for me! It's still the AoA subsurface skin settings behind the maps and it works really fast.
The key thing is the eyebrows --if you're going to do an anime styled character then you have to color the eyebrows the same color as the hair or it just won't work when you look at it. Once I did that, then the look I wanted popped right out at me
